a. Show examples of Godard, Hillman Curtis, Modern Living on Graphic Design Portraits- why you want to hire me for the design job
b. Introduce Portrait Project: 30 secs, Include Name, why hire you for design job
2. Stages of development through storyboarding
a. Realize, visualize, actualize
3. Pair up in two to do portraits, each take turns with videography, lighting and sound
C. Homework
1. Becoming a Graphic Designer by Heller, Chapter on Motion
a. An overview of the field
b. 10 minute presentation on ONE motion designer (from Heller book or elsewhere): talk about why you like this person work and show some examples
2. Brainstorm on your portrait and what you’d like to do
a. Write or sketch out what you’re thinking of doing
b. Begin shooting video

Week 2: Shoot video

A. Class
1) Discussion & RR: about motion design field
2) Show and tell of favorite motion designers
B. Studio
1) Review raw footage of portrait video
C. Homework
1) RR: York Library Reserve: The Animation Book, Laybourne. Pick ONLY ONE technique you might like to use in your film opening from p 47- 233
2) Make rough edit of portrait video

Week 3: Rough edit

A. Class
1) Lecture, Discussion & RR: The Animation Book. Talk about ONE technique interested in.
B. Studio
1) Review rough cuts
C. Homework
1) Finish final edits; burn on DVD-R to turn in to Professor for grading
2) Reading, on York Library Reserve & Summary online:
SSM – Chap 6 Area; Chap 12 Time; Chap 14 Motion

Week 4: Final edit – hand in for grading

A. Class
1) Lecture, Discussion and RR- SSM: Chap 6 Area; Chap 12 Time; Chap 14 Motion
2) Introduce Project 2: TV ID Openings of diverse designs- another culture unfamiliar to you –
French, Chinese, East Indian, Hispanic
B. Studio
1) Crit: Final Self Portraits.
HAND IN FINAL SELF PORTRAIT ON DVD-R, labeled with Name, Title, Student Number, Date
C. Homework
1) Reading SSM: Chap 15 Editing, Chap 17 Sound
